Backwashing your Pool

Backwashing your pool is the process of cleaning a pool filter by reversing the flow of water to remove trapped debris and contaminants.

Why is Backwashing Important?

Regular backwashing ensures your pool filter operates efficiently, maintaining clean and clear water. It prevents blockages that could reduce water circulation.

When to Backwash

  • When the filter pressure gauge shows an increase of 8-10 PSI over the normal reading.
  • After vacuuming the pool, especially if it was dirty.
  • When the pool water becomes cloudy despite proper chemical balance.

How to Backwash

  1. Turn off the pool pump.
  2. Set the filter valve to "Backwash."
  3. Turn on the pump and run until the sight glass shows clear water (usually 2-3 minutes).
  4. Turn off the pump, set the valve to "Rinse," and run for 30 seconds.
  5. Return the valve to the "Filter" setting and restart the pump.
