How to Clean Your Eagle Ray Water Tester

This page covers how to clean and care for your Eagle Ray device, what test result variations are acceptable, and why small differences in readings are completely normal.

To keep your Eagle Ray readings consistent and accurate, it's important to maintain the sensor and handle your strips properly.

Clean the sensor pad when:

  • You’ve done 20–30 tests

  • You see a “Light Error”

  • Your results seem inconsistent

  • You notice dust, water, or buildup on the pad

How to clean it:
Use a soft paper towel dampened with distilled, purified, mineral, or high-quality filtered water (not pool or spa water). After cleaning, blot the sensor gently with a dry section of the towel. Do not scrub or over-clean, as this can damage the sensor.

Acceptable Test Result Ranges

Parameter Acceptable Variation
Free Chlorine (FCL) ±0.30 ppm
Total Chlorine (TCL) ±0.30 ppm
Bromine (Br) ±1 ppm
Cyanuric Acid (CyA) ±40 ppm
Alkalinity (Alk) ±50 ppm
Total Hardness (TH) ±80 ppm
pH ±0.4

Why Are Small Variations Normal?

Digital testers work by measuring light through your water sample and comparing it to calibrated values. Factors like lighting, test strip age, and even slight differences in water samples can create small variations. These tolerances are normal and expected in any digital testing system.
